Currie F9 Portal Front Axle for SCX10-II based vehicles

The F9 Portal axles create extreme amounts of ground clearance under the center of your axle, increasing the clearance by 1/2"+ (13mm). This provides the equivalent of a tire over 1 inch taller than what is on your vehicle. The advantage of the Vanquish Currie F9 Portals is the gear reduction inside the portal (1.67:1) which can be adjusted with optional gear sets (1.4:1 Overdrive). By adding reduction at the portal, less torque is transferred through the other upstream components in the drivetrain. These axles are a direct replacement to any Axial AR44 axle, using all stock links.

These axles come with all parts needed to assemble a full front axle.

Features

Requires the use of a 350 SLW hub or greater on Vanquish 1.9 wheels, Incision wheels will require a #4 or greater. Other wheel manufacturers offsets will vary. Axles must be used in pairs, you cannot run a front portal axle without a rear and vice versa.

The Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy is reminding the community of the dangers of using street drugs after receiving reports of three overdose deaths in Guelph in the past two weeks.

Adrienne Crowder, manager of the drug strategy, said she was made aware of the three deceased through contacts with community service providers. It’s not yet confirmed that these individuals died by overdose because toxicology tests still need to be completed, but that’s the suspicion, she said. The drug strategy posted a tweet on Monday about these deaths and the purple fentanyl and heroin now on the streets.

Over the past two weeks there has also been a series of non-fatal overdoses, "presumably from the same street drug supply,” she said. Two of those overdoses occurred at the temporary overdose prevention site at Guelph’s CHC. The site has been open for two months and has seen more than 430 visits from 97 different community members.

“When we put out that alert, it’s warning to ensure that anybody who is perhaps using street-bought opioids or fentanyl that they are fully aware that there’s no quality control.

“The presumption is that that particular batch of drug has higher than normal levels of some fentanyl analogue,” like carfentanil, she said.

The tweet also highlights new reports of “purple fentanyl” and “purple heroin” showing up in Guelph.

Crowder said this is the street name that’s been given to that particular product. Heroin is typically the colour of black tar, or a deep brown, but when it’s created in clandestine labs, food colouring is added to make it purple.

“That’s the name folks who are using street supply drugs use.

“Obviously the drug supply on the street isn’t made in a registered lab. It’s made in some kind of illicit lab and purple food dye is put into the product,” she said. “So when folks are buying it, they know it as either purple fentanyl or purple heroin.”

Those three people who died were community members, Crowder said. “They had friends, had family, and the ripple effect is large.”

The deceased have not been identified, but Guelph police has confirmed there have been three overdoses in the past two weeks. Two were males, one was female and each death was fentanyl related, police said. Their ages vary but all were in their mid-30s or younger.

Const. Josh Fraser said officers also responded to overdose reports in the past two weeks that were not at the overdose prevention site downtown Guelph. Those proved not to be fatal.

He said police believe the purple fentanyl that’s found on the street now contains carfentanil or some other fentanyl analogue. “It’s 100 times more powerful” than the fentanyl that was previously found on the street, he said.

Ed Pickersgill, longtime Guelph anti-poverty activist, posted on social media on July 6 identifying 28-year-old Henok Getahun as one of three who died from overdose. A Justin Boots Br354 Mens Pebbled Brown Boots kZKXGQl

Guelph's Overdose Prevention Site

Last week city’s overdose prevention site (OPS) celebrated its two-month anniversary. Raechelle Devereaux, executive director of Guelph CHC, said over the past eight weeks the site has seen five overdose reversals — twice with naloxone and three times with oxygen intervention.

During the heat event of the past week, the site saw between 15-25 visits per day, she said. Eighty-four per cent of drugs used at the site have been opioids.

The city’s OPS is different than the long-term supervised consumption sites established in Ottawa and Toronto. Those sites have been given an ongoing exemption from Health Canada.

Late last year, amid the opioid crisis in Ontario, Health Canada gave the province exemption under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to roll out temporary overdose prevention sites. These sites are to be given three- to six-month exemptions. The OPS in Guelph is one of those temporary sites with an exemption to operate from May until November.

Local opioid deaths lower than provincial average

Data provided by Devereaux shows the average rate of emergency room visits for opioid poisoning in Wellington Dufferin Guelph (WDG) was 53 per cent higher than the Ontario average between 2013 and 2016. Over the same period, the average rate of hospitalizations due to opioid poisoning was 17 per cent higher in WDG when compared to the province.

But when it comes to death caused by opioid poisoning, average rates in WDG were 32 per cent lower than the provincial average over this same period. Devereaux said she doesn’t have current numbers, but anecdotally, from what hears in the community, the number of deaths are likely on the rise.

According to current data from WDG Public Health, she might not be far off.

In 2016, the local health unit reports there were 14 opioid-related deaths in its service area. On the Public Health Ontario website, preliminary data is displayed up until July 2017. In the first seven months of the year, the data suggests there were 15 opioid-related deaths.
